The newest XPROG-M V5.45 has been released for a while. But many auto mechanics that already have the old XPROG-M V5.0 are unwilling to spend another 180USD or more for a new XPROG-M ECU chip tuning tool. Of course, you can send the tool to the supplier for update, but that would takes one week or more, which you cannot afford to waste. Here is an inexpensive way for you to upgrade your XPROG-M V5.0 to the newest version.
Buy an ATMEGA64 Repair Chip. The chip only costs about 100USD to 130USD in different shops, at least 50USD less than a brand new XPROG V5.45. You can easily find the chip across the internet.
2.Install the software inside ATMEGA64 chip. How to do it: first solder the Atmega64 MCU to your XPROG V5.0. Overwrite all files and folders from a document named Xprog_Preinstalled to your local file. Usually the file would be c:\Program Files\ELDB\Xprog or c:\Program Files(X86)\ELDB\Xprog.
After the installation, you can try to start up the tool and check if is successfully installed. The main difference between the V5.0 XPROG and V5.45 XPROG is the MCUs they support. The new MCUs include Auth-0023-1 MAC7xxx Authorized 5/9/2013, Auth-0023-2 XC2300 Authorized 5/9/2013, Auth-0024-3 MC9S12XE Security Authorized 5/9/2013, and so on. You can learn it from its authorization.
Test if the chip can work or not. There is really not much to say about this. I bought one in February, and have already tested it on a 05 BMW 530i. It can really work. If your XPROG cannot work after replacing the chip, you should go to the seller.
