BMW Standard Tools is a group of software distributed by BMW Group that contains several interoperating applications and drivers, including NCS Expert, WinKFP, NFS, Tool32 etc. Following are the free download and detail installation instruction offered.

How install and setup BMW Standard Tools (SDT) step-by-step?

NOTE: We use INPA K+DCAN cable here.

Install BMW Standard Tools 2.12

1.First must install bmw_std_tools_2.12, go to the folder and launch bmw_std_tools_2.12 Standard_Tools_Setup_2.12.exe to start the installation.

2.Select language and press OK.

3.We are informed that the installation will begin on the computer and it is recommended to close all other existing applications. Press Next.

4.Accept the license and do next

5.The system will display BMW Standard Tools software information, click on Next to continue

6.Select the program components you want to install (no need driver). Press Next

7.Then the system will ask you if you want to change the locations of the data on your drive, leave it to default.

8.This part of the setup creates a folder in the start menu to gather all launchers

9.Data backup is optional. You can leave the box to avoid a warning message. Then it will create the icons on the desktop and in the Start menu.

10.You are asked to choose your interface type, STD: ODB for this procedure with K+ DCAN cable.

11.You are asked to choose the serial port to choose com1 and checked the USB box

12.The next program will bring the previous settings information, click “Install” to begin the installation process.

14.If the file does not exist you will get a warning message like 4 times, for our 4 files made. Made just skip each time (The catch is can not be in the good order)

15.That installation is complete, select “No, I will restart the computer later” option and click on “Finish” button

16.Now we have to copy the files contained in BMW Standard tools v2.12 ENG 2012 in C: \

If you go into your hard drive you will find at the root folders:

– EC-APPS

– Ediabas

– NCSEXPERT

– NFS-Backup

In the folder BMW Standard tools v2.12 ENG 2012 there are 3 files to copy:

– EC-APPS

– Ediabas

– NCSEXPERT

Merged and replaced all when Windows asks you. Do not delete the files and then replace because you lack data and shall appear bugs.

Configure Cable

1.Installation is completed and we must configure our cable so that it is functional.

2.Connect your K+DCAN cable with computer, Windows will attempt to install a driver.

3.See in the start menu and right click on computer to manage to see this screen:

4.Then go into Device Manager to check if the INPA cable is well connected.

5.Right click and go to property and Driver tab.

Check The driver for Version 2.10.0.0

If this is not the case made to update the driver, search for a driver on my computer

6.Choose the folder location bmw std tools v2.12 ENG 2012 and select the folder K+DCAN Drivers

7.Windows installs the driver, check the driver version and Close.

In the port setting tab, go to Advanced. Check COM port setting. Here we set to COM1.

8.This is our port is configured there is no tested on the vehicle.

Install Rheingold

If your vehicle is recognized you can proceed to install Rheingold 3.**.**. (Latest Rheingold V2015.04 3.48.30 )

C: \ Ediabas \ Hardware \ OBD ODBSetup.exe start if you have an error launching Seriel port.reg and repeated.

Installation Rheingold

You must have BMW Standard INPA 2.12 with 5.0.6 and 7.3.0 to run Ediabas rheingold

Rheingold is provided in a version without installation.

Unzip the folder where you want and run it by going to:

testergui \ bin \ relase \ istagui.exe

You can make a shortcut on the desktop istagui.exe

Cheap BMW coding software, definition and function

A lot of cheap and power coding software for module coding, module updating, basic scanning etc has been penetrated into BMW market. Following lists some of the coding software and definition/function.

INPA (interpreter for test procedures) is older factory floor diagnostic software, designed to run test procedures. While INPA can be set for English User Interface, most of the Test Procedures, which can be difficult to find, are in German. It is distributed with BMW Standard Tools that implements EDIABAS to perform a host of functions related to testing/reporting/troubleshooting.

BMW Standard Tools – The software suite distributed by BMW Group that contains several interoperating applications and drivers, including NCS Expert, WinKFP, NFS, INPA, and others.

Datens – German for “data sets”. In this context, the term refers to various file types that contain information about the modules found on a given vehicle and how to code them. Datens are distributed as part of ISTA-P software releases, and are typically referred along with the version of ISTA-P they were distributed with. For instance, datens from ISTA-P 2.38 are informally referred to as “v38 datens”.

K+DCAN – subset of the K-line and CANBUS standard. This is the bus standard used by all the systems in BMW (and other late-model) vehicles to communicate with one another. Analogous to a LAN comprised of several computers which all communicate via a standard protocol. A K+DCAN cable is able to connect to an OBD II port and allow another connected device to communicate on the vehicle’s network.

EDIABAS Toolset 32 – Electronic Diagnostic Base System – A proprietary communication protocol/command set developed by BMW and implemented in all their vehicles. All proprietary BMW software uses EDIABAS to communicate with the vehicle.

Module – A standalone computer that performs one or more related, specialized functions in the vehicle. Modules are not centrally located; they are found all throughout the vehicle. Modules communicate with other modules and systems on the CAN network, and implement the EDIABAS standard.

NCS Expert – Software application distributed with BMW Standard Tools that can communicate directly with any module on the CAN network. NCS Expert can, among other things, read the configuration codes from modules and write new configurations to them.

WinKFP— WinKFP is for flashing/reprogramming modules. It will be able to update modules manually, but again, try to avoid it unless necessary. Updates usually contain only minor changes you’ll never really notice in most cases.

E-sys— BMW Coding software for F series. Come be work with BMW ENET (Ethernet to OBD) cable and ICOM emulator.

ISIS–(now known as ISPI) has multiple components to the workshop system. The main server is IBASE (or ISIS). This is the central repository and installation point of all the data.

ISSS–is Integrated Software Service Station. This facilitates the programming sessions and stores the programming data. ISTA/P invokes an available ISSS for a programming session.

BMW Rheingold— a new system for the diagnosis of BMW. Works with E and F series. Come to replace ISTA/D.

ISTA/D (aka Rheingold) is current dealership diagnostic software for all Exx and Fxx cars. ISTA/D is the replacement for older dealership DIS diagnostic software.

ISTA/P–is the replacement for older delaership SSS Program programming software.

ISTA/P & ISTA/D are designed to be used with an ICOM Interface emulator, and with full ICOM A+B+C, you can connect to older cars. The ICOM “C” Connection is for the older BMW ADS 20-pin round “Pacman” connector in Engine Bay. You can find versions of ISTA/D with an ICOM Emulator builtin, that allows you to use it with an ENET Interface for Fxx cars and a DCAN Interface for Exx cars. Setup X-horse BMW Multi Tool CAS Plug to program EWS key

X-horse BMW Multi Tool is the first universal key programmer that can program both BMW CAS (CAS1, CAS2, CAS3, CAS3+ and CAAS4) and EWS key.

BMW Multi Tool key programmer alone cannot program EWS key, you need to connect it with a CAS PLUG. The CAS PLUG for BMW Multi Tool adds EWS function and some CAS possibilities.

BMW Multi Tool: program EWS and CAS Key from EEPROM Dump

Before programming a BMW Key, you need to have a basic understanding of your BMW immobilizer system. BMW immo system can be generally divided into two categories: EWS and CAS.

EWS immo:EWS1、EWS2、EWS3、EWS4

CAS immo:CAS1、CAS2、CAS3、CAS3+、CAS4

How to tell your BMW is EWS or CAS immo?

  1. Year

1) 2000-2003/04 BMW 3-series, 5-series, 7-series with straight shank remote control key belongs to EWS system, like picture below.

2) 2004-2006 BMW 3-series, 5-series, Z4, X5, X3 belongs to CAS2 system. CAS2 and CAS3 immo ECU picture display as below. Another Straight shank remote control key (similar to Land rover key) with BMW logo, but in black color, belongs to CAS2 immo system as well.

CAS1: old BMW 7-series

CAS2: 2004-2006 BMW 3-series, 5-series, Z4, X5, X3

CAS3: BMW 3-series, 5-series before year 2010

CAS3+ BMW 3-series after year 2010

  1. Car key type

CAS1 BMW 7-series should insert the smart card into the slot and press start key.

CAS2 is the straight shank remote control key

If BMW key needs insert smart card into the slot and press one key to start vehicle, all these keys are easier before CAS+., almost of them are CAS3.

CAS4 key no need to insert the smart card to slot, directly press Start button

For example, if your car id BMW X5 2009, it should be CAS3 system.

After confirm your immo type, the next is to pick up a proper key programmer. AK90 key programmer (for all EWS), AK300 key programmer, Car key master, BMW Multi Tool are all good options for BMW key programming. BMW Multi Tool is the most stable and recommended.

BMW Multi Tool key programmer is mainly designed to work on CA1, CAS2, CAS3, CAS+ CAS4. But it newly added EWS key programming if provided with CAS PLUG EWS adapter.

CAS1 write key

CAS2: requires demolition, write key after read data

CAS3 and CAS3+: no need demolition

BMW Multi Tool has two key programming options: File Make Key and Make Key online via OBD2.

1) File Make Key:

Select “File Make Key” tab,

Insert new CAS2 key into the CAS Adapter

Do not need to connect BMW Multi Tool with vehicle, only connects it with computer,

Select CAS2

Click Key learning

2) Make Key online via OBD2

Connect BMW Multi Tool with vehicle, then connect with computer,

Select Auto Detect, the system will automatically detect the protocol and type

Click Write EEPROM, then click Save to File…

Click Key Learning.

Then the system will display following message:

Make dealer key- using CAS Adapter (make key using CAS adapter)

Make dealer key-using ignition switch (Turn ignition ON/OFF)

The first way is frequently used.

Click Get Key Info, then the system will display key information. Select any key position number (KeyID3, 4,5)

Insert the new smart card into the CAS Adapter, click “Make Dealer Key-using CAS Adapter”

After that the system will display, select Add key, press Next

Make dealer key successfully.

Plug the original key form key slot, insert the new key into the key slot, the new key is ready to use, the remote can be activated as well.

Click “Synch DME-CAS”

I’m currently running Durametric software on my spare computer with Windows XP system as the product description said the software is only compatible with XP system. But I found someone get it installed in XP mode on Windows 7 laptop, you can have a try.

Use OPCOM turn on/off Vauxhall Zafira Day Running Lights

There is no “on” or “off” switch for Vauxhall day running lights but the lights can be easily activate or disable via an OPCOM code reader or by the dealers. The cost of DIY is much less than that at the dealers. So, here I would like to share a quick guide about how to activate my Zafira B 2008 with €17.00 OPCOM 2010.

Next we will start the coding:

Start up OPCOM software > click Diagnostics in the menu > 2007 (year of your car) > Zafira B (model of your car) > Body > (UEC) Underhood Electrical Centre;
Diagnostics > Year > Zafira > Body > (REC) Rear Electrical Centre;
Then once in these the process is the same;
Programming > Variant Programming > DRL Option 1 to 5 then click program;
After a few seconds, the day running light is activated.

No program activating my DRL. The process to turn off the day running light is the same. Hope this will work for you as it did for me.

What vehicles does OPCOM support?

Hi, guys. I have my OPCOM 2010 for weeks and have been playing with it. I have enabled auto speed locking/ hijacking and pulled error codes it, and have just been able to program a new key with my op-com to my car. How to create a new Astra key with OPCOM

I have seen several members asked about how to programming a key with OPCOM in Vauxhall forums, so I decided to write a quick guide on this using my Astra Mk4.

4 things you will need:

1. NEW remote central locking board (PCB) to the car
2. A key to the car
3. The Security Pass for the car
4. Opcom OP-Com 2010 with Firmware V1.45

Next is the guide:

1. Insert your NEW remote central locking board into your key.

2. Put the key into the ignition and turn but not start the engine.

3. Plug OPCOM to your car and your computer or laptop that has its software installed.

4. Start up OPCOM software and click on “DIAGNOSTICS”.

5. You will get a vehicle identification menu in the next page. Select your car year.

6. On the next page select model of your car.

7. Select “BODY” from the menu.

8. Select “ANTI THEFT WARNING” from the menu.

9. Press “PROGRAMMING” button on the right hand side of the screen.

10. Select “SECURITY CODE” from menu (this should be the only one available at the time).

11. Enter your “SECURITY CODE” and click OK.

12. Select “PROGRAMMING REMOTE CAR KEY” from menu.

13. Now just follow the on screen instructions.

14. Click “CLOSE”.

15. Open and close door, now try locking your door and then dead lock it. Once you have done this, unlock and all should be done.
